Elk M1 XEP FTP Server

Just did a port scan on the home network and found that my XEP shows three services open. Port 80 and 2601 I recognize and understand but I also show a FTP server on port 21. Tried loggin into it and could not with the regular name/pass. It replied back 220 NET+OS 6.3 FTP server ready.
 
What is the FTP server for? I have had the system installed for 4 years and never knew it had this.Firmware loaded is 1.3.38.

I noticed that too the other day; I would imagine for firmware updates or the like but have no idea what the official answer is.

I spent the afternoon playing with this. The FTP server has a user: ElkRP and a password: Program . (I got these by listening to the firmware update process). Unfortunately the FTP server doesn't really seem to do much aside from firmware updates. I cannot receive or list the files on the XEP. It might be of some interest that the XEP runs on NET+ARM version 1.1 running NET+OS 6.3.
