Elk M1G phone fault beep

Is there any way to shut this beep the !@#$ off?

I have searched this forum and find ways to disable the phone entirely or to change country codes etc. But I can't find a simple code to just shut the beep off. Was this too much to think about when designing the system?

Due to the storms running through the area, we have some widespread phone outages. No big deal until I had to shut off my entire system because my daughter can't sleep with the !@#$ beeping. So instead of the system just not being able to call out, it is shut down so it can't even tell me if there is a fire. So I have to rely on battery powered smokes instead of the security system. Nice!

Sorry for the tone, but this is ridiculous.

I have tried using the installer code which killed the beep for a while, but it came back after about an hour. I can't use the main code because I can't arm the system ( family visiting won't be able let their dog out at night). So I am kind of screwed.

Anyone want to buy a slightly used elk M1G?

Try the Asterisk on the Keypad, I believe that silences it.

Any security/fire systemyou buy should do this as it is required by UL and the NFPA. As Opie noted if you press the asterisk key it will silence the keypad. I think it might resound in 24 hours though (not sure).


When I used POTS lines my keypad would beep about 1 am once or twice a week when the phone company ran tests and would drive us nuts. I switched to TCP/IP with Next Alarm for that reason. It works well for me.

It did shut it off, but so did the installer code - for about 4 hours. Our phones came back up before that amount of time had passed.

I ran into this also this past weekend. I had an unused phone jack in my house that apparently had bad wiring and it ended up shorting itself out taking out the phones in my house. I couldn't figure out what was going on even after bypassing the alarm. Finally had AT&T come out today and they discovered pretty quickly where the short was. Man what I'd give to have the equipment those guys carry!
