need a little help with a new install. I am new to all this stuff. I ihave a M1 system with a navigator keypad. I got everything fired up and running using the RP software but on the navigator it states i need to synconize it. When i select syncronize and then start..nothing happens. the screen doesn't show a progress bar or anything and about 30 seconds later it times out i guess and returns to the main screen. any thoughts? thanks

Is the navigator enrolled on the buss? I don't know if it needs to be, but mine works fine in that regard.

I did this:

- Connect navigator
- Choose keypad address from startup screen (cleverly I used 1 and 2)
- Enroll (the first I think auto-enrolled if I recall) - it all disconnects and comes back

I frankly haven't figured out what I need to synchronize, most things just work, but I think it tells you (lights, maybe FN key names).

When it is synchronizing it should show little icons like a lightbulb or similar, not a progress bar, and it takes maybe 15 seconds (that's a guess not measured), so maybe 30 is right, but you should see recognizable icons flashing up.

Does everything else work on it? Most functionality should work without synchronizing, e.g. arm, disarm, status display at the top.

Good explanation from Linwood above! One other thing, is this the 'only' keypad in your system? Is it terminated correctly both at the Elk board and at the touchscreen itself? If this is not the only keypad, how are all of them wired with respect to the Elk? Are you using a data base hub?

You can setup function keys and lighting to perform an automation task and name the function keys. Also the zone names will get sync when you synchronize the navigator to the Elk.

I replaced my existing KP2 with new Navigator, it ask to sync and it was really fast. You also didnt say how you connect keypad? To databus or using DBH?
In case you use DBH you dont need to terminate anything on device, only on DBH.

What firmware version is in your M1 Control? Navigator needs to see firmware version 5.2.8 or later in order to syncronize. Page 2 of the M1KPNAV Installation sheet.

I also suggest going this route if it seems to work but doesn't do the "new" navigator things.

Open RP2, connect to your Elk, go to Send/Rec, click Enroll/Update Control and Devices...Check the firmware there.
