fanboys rejoice, there really is an ipad

.. battery life how could you use anything else as a HA touch panel?
What is the battery life projected as?

read the link i posted
Goog lord, that post is 200 pages long, is it really that hard to mention it again?

Ok, for others that missed page 175 ;) it's 10 hours hypothetically.

hehe sorry, my co-worker made me post that. he said whenever someone posts a link, you always ask questions answered in the link instead of reading it (regardless of how short the article is)

... How many home automation packages run on Apples OS?

I would expect anything that can use the iTouch/phone natively so HomeSeer, J9AE, and Indigo off the top of my head. Also anything that can use the web browser so Premise (with 123s mods), Misterhouse and many others.

Lastly, you can use iRdesktop (free from the app store) to connect to any RDP server which is how I use HouseBot's swremote with my iPhones. (multi-rdp patch and a user account for each device on XP)

There is a cqc client as well.
Is the CQC client that RIVA thing I read about? If so, can I run CQC on the iPad without any shenanigans?

Yeah it talks to the RIVA server and displays interfaces designed in cqc. The only drawback is no web widgets and no progress bars. Works pretty flawlessly on my iphone and the developer intends to look at the new sdk in the next week or so to make sure its compatible. It should run great on the ipad.

10 hours of continuous video playing, something like a month of standby power.

That is about the only exciting thing about the annoucement IMHO. There are a lot of disappointed people out there right now. No camera (for video conferencing), no flash, likely no bluetooth, no concurrent applications (this one is huge IMHO). It really is like a big iPhone/iPod Touch. Sure there will be some slick programs written for the larger screen and faster processor, but its experience will be more like the iPhone than a computer.

Seriously Rupp? Check out the front page, has an article (little outdated, so there is more now) which lists all the HA apps for the iphone ;) Battery life is supposedly around 10 hours, or 1 month standby.

But 3g would be really nice ;) Probably not worth the $30 a month data fee if you were only using it for automation purposes. But I still love the idea of taking it on a trip and connecting with my system at home from the road.

What I really want is a iTouch with 3g capabilities and a $30/mo data plan. I have a work phone, so I don't need a $100 month voice/data/text plan!
If you have a HTC WM phone, you can run HTC Wifi Router, which turns your phone into an access point, works great!

it has "Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR technology"

this is another reason why i can't dump my HTC WM phone despite its shortcomings, especially since i'm on the $30/mo sprint SERO plan.
