Front End for HomeSeer 2.x based system

The reason for bringing CQC and Homeseer into it, is to compare the style differences between the companies choices of packaging and then releases. Not sure why I don't want to "seriously don't want to bring CQC into this". There are pros and cons to the different strategies.

Yes, there can be ONE graphic in a release. If someone asked us to do that for them and they didn't want to wait a quarter of a year for it. If find it interesting because BSR's comment of the "one graphic" was that He was a recipient of that One graphic that he at the time got satisfaction out of, and wrote a whole article on his implementation with which the "graphic" was of value to. In reality it was a Flash Movie script (with many graphics built into it) that also had scripting in it. But, we can just toss that into the pile as a "graphic".

I guess I should wait a few more mins as your posts are getting edited after my response, but I have no idea where you're going with the CQC bit, and why you'd bother talking about it's strategy since the OP doesn't care about it.

All BSR & I were doing were pointing out one factor of your "For the record, There were 41 builds of just the MainLobby client in 2006 and 37 builds in 2007 alone." statement.

That's it. Nothing else.

If vendors expect to be able to post marketing points, they can't get bugged if people point out where the wall is thick & where it's thin.

ok, ok, folks... let's stick to the topic at hand... front end possibilities for homeseer... i think we've fairly established the most customizable ones are ML, jon00's plugin, and the upcoming HSTouch. i'd rather not get confrontational here....

So RandyKnight,
What are your thoughts on developing a UI for Homeseer. Will it be on the similar tact as Jon00? Ajax?

Not to be confrontational but there but why do you feel that Netremote and the hsHirder plugin is not capable of serving as a graphical frontend? You can easily do a light control panel, security panel, weather, web, music, webcam and anything else I have seen any of the other skins do.

In fact the PocketPC version of NR is extremely powerful (I would love to see some of the others do a skin on a PPC like the one below) and the same skin can be developed and run on both the PPC and Win32 platforms. Its also a much cheaper solution. I guess I don't understand why people have such a hard time understanding its capabilities.

good point... i've never used Netremote and hsgirder, so I forgot about them when formulating my reply... it was more a plea to calm down than to exclude anything... in fact, could you provide some links to each of those so i can get a better understanding of how they work?

I fought with NetRemote and hsGirder for about an hour and gave up after it locked up HomeSeer a few times.

Haven't really decided yet. I'm going to use this as an excuse to really dive into .net 3.5 technologies such as Ajax, WPF, maybe even SilverLight. I'm goint to start out with some Audrey-compliant web pages and go from there. Could end up as Ajax web pages, WPF WinForms app, etc.

It will not be similary to Jon00 in that I don't intend to create something usable by somebody else, at least not without some programming skills. I will be coding a UI, not a UI builder if that makes sense. Could it be extended to that some day? Sure. But that's not my initial plan.

I'm joining this discussion a bit late, but I'm shocked that people are still considering the Audrey as a TS interface to build around. While I enjoyed mine for quite some time, I got rid of them about a year and a half to two years ago because of the slowness (and I had a slimmed down image).

Even the intermec 5055's that I have installed in the walls used primarily as slideshow frames are a bit slow in response with mainlobby, but they will do the trick. There has to be other lowcost touchscreens out there nowadays, like the 5055 that was on a firesale on ebay a couple years back.

stinger, are you on latest MainLobby3 client, a lot of those "graphics" updates have signficantly enhanced screen refresh and load times due to coding changes implemented in them. Older, used, cheaper devices are more usable than ever before with MainLobby, though a less than 1ghz cpu is less than ideal.
