Garage as main enterance

We use our garage as the main entrance to our home and I'm worried about a sensor to the garage. My concern is that I'd have to increase the time to enter a valid code into the keypad. I've looked into a wireless device to turn of the alarm from the car, however if anyone gets a hold of this device, my alarm is useless.

Are there any other solutions to this problem?

Thanks

One compromise I have considered is to use the wireless keyfob to activate a relay to bypass the garage door sensor for 5 minutes (or so). This gives you 5 minutes in that area to unload and get in the house, but doesn't compromise the entire house.

You could use a keyfob to operate an aux output on the Elk and have the output shunt the overhead garage door contact (and operate the door opener). You should also have the door going into the house as a separate zone. This way you can enter the garage, exit the vehicle and not start the entry timer until you open the door to the house. If you lose your remote the most they can do is get access to the garage without tripping the alarm.

There is no reason why I can't. I'm just worried about taking extra time to unload the car with groceries and what not. Was interested to see if there were any other solutions.

Simple really

Drive into the garage (zone is a force armed zone), stop car, go to keyad and punch in code, go back to car and unload. Do it all the time.

If thats too much work for you, get a keyfob to arm and disarm before you open the garage door. If you lose it, you remove it from the system. You dont throw away your car if you lose your car keys now do you.

Hi,

I have my garage doors on a long exit/entry delay, And the door into the house on a short delay. This way when you open the garage door/doors you have plenty of time to take care of whatever, But as soon as you open the door into the house the delay jumps down to the time programmed for that door. Works great for me.
