I was wandering what is the best brand and opener to install in my house so that I can controle it with my HAI pannelle.

the things i would like to do are:
know when the door is open
close and open the door with the keyboard.

also would like to turn off the alarm when i open the door with the remote.

thanks so much.

Ps als are their some solution to retrofit this to an older opener

Usually all you need is garage door sensor to detect if you garage door is open, and connect your opener to a relay on your panel to open and close the door. It is not recommended that you disarm your alarm when the door is opened as garage door openers are not secure.

TO the configuration noted by #wuench I added the outdoor keypad at one of my garage doors. I then programmed different key sequences to open the different garage doors. It works perfectly and I do not need any individual keyless garage opener devices.

Every garage door opener I've seen is triggered with a momentary contact (ie you press the button in and it opens/closes the door. This function is easily recreated with a momentary relay control.

As mentioned already, you really just need a way to determine the status of the door (is it open or closed currently). Most people use a simply magnetic contact that is closed when the door is closed. Then if the contact is open, the door must be open.

I also agree that you should not disarm the alarm via an automatic remote. It might be more convenient, but also totally makes the alarm meaningless should someone steal your keys or car and decides to rob the house too. You also loose the ability to enter in a duress code should you need to (attacked while getting out of the car and forced inside, etc).

I realize these scenarios are pretty unlikely to happen, but don't limit the effectiveness of the alarm system because of laziness.

This is great for controlling a garage door over UPB (I think one unit can do two doors, but check the docs to be sure):

For knowing when its open or closed use a wired garage door sensor (there's plenty available) or you can even use HAI's wireless motion detector

You can also use an HAI's Wireless Door/Window Transmitter 46A00-1: "3 Zone Door/Window Transmitter that includes a mercury tilt switch for garage doors."

IMHO the best brand would be a Chamberlain or Liftmaster. That's my opinion, others will differ.

Door status has nothing to do with the opener as mentioned above. You could use a sentrol 2505AL or 2315AL or equivalent for that.

Older openers may be easier to control than a brand new one. As long as the older opener has the modern safety sensors and door closing safetys buit in then there really isn't a reason to change it out. You could just wire the relay contacts parallel to the pushbutton control that currently exists.

BSR posted a good link on using a generic wireless remote which works well. I borrowed the concept for my LM3800 but with the wired control panel.

If you use a modern opener with a "smart control panel" you will not be able to use a simple relay to the opener wires to open and close the garage door without resetting the clock on the smart control panel. To use a smart control panel you will have to wire pigtails to the tact switches on the smart control panel, similar to BSR's post with the wireless transmitter, to allow the external relay to control the GDO and not reset the smart control panel clock.

I have 3 elk relays that can... open/close the door, turn the garage door opener light on, and lock the GDO transmitters.

I know the new Liftmaster MyIQ doors have a new remote module that lets you check and close the garage door and tells you the status of the door wirelessly. The module is Liftmaster 829LM.

Unless you're not worried about the clocks on the "smart" control panels -- it would still work fine and is easier to wire.

I have a Chamberlain Liftmaster Professional and am interested in performing all of the functions that you mention. What are the specific relays that you have hooked up to be able to open/close the door, turn on the lights, and lock the transmitters? Where might one acquire said transmitters? I plan to hook these up to the 12V outputs on my HAI OPII.

TIA
