Has anyone else had any issues with the GE 350cc smoke detectors going off during windy/gusty weather. Ours have went off twice in the past month during gusty weather. Is there anyway to prevent the alarms from occurring when it is windy outside?
I can't even begin to think of how those 2 things are correlated, unless there's a serious air leak in the ceiling where the alarm is attached and it's blowing attic air through the alarm (which would probably be dirty enough to set it off). I have a house full of CC's and 1 CX, and we had some heck of a wind this weekend...no false alarms from that. I'd almost wonder if a wire was loose somewhere in the attic and the wind was blowing it. *shrug*.
Wind infiltrates a home is many ways. Doggy doors, windows that need chalked (or closed), dryer vents, window air conditioners, flu's for (non-electric) furnaces and hot water heaters, damaged or missing siding or even roofing.
I would also guess it would take considerable dust or whatever in the air to be sensed as smoke. Often smoke detectors can be "dirtied" by drywall repair, or concrete work (in a basement?).
So... what happened in recent weeks (or months) that has caused the effects of wind to change the sensors responce?
I'm not sure where you live, but we've had problems with itsy bitsy spiders making a home in motion and smoke detectors. My solution is to disconnect it, put it in a bag with a bit of bug spray for a few days, then it seems to work good after that.
