Global Cache GC-100 How do you integrate it???

Is anyone using a Global Cache for IR distribution? I have a GC-100 18 lying around and would like to integrate it into my HAI OmniPro II panel. But I'm not really sure how. I don't understand the IR Logic, Coding, and Programming. Is there other equipment needed besides the GC-100?

Example of what I would like to accomplish: In the morning the HAI is taken off night mode. That triggers it to turn the tv on to the new channel. ect......


I've never done any IR distribution before so I would appreciate any help understanding how you integrate it.

HomeSeer has a Global Cache plugin as well as an HAI plugin so maybe the 2 could be married by HomeSeer?

I use an 18R for zoned IR distribution from CQC

Not that helps you with HAI though

Basically you need something to tell it what to send out the IR port

Does the GC support triggering IR commands by ASCII strings (not too familiar with the protocol)? If so, you should be able to send out an ASCII string with the HAI panel. I do something similar with my Elk M1 and Ocelot/SECU16.

The GC piece will not "natively" integrate with HAI. You will have to have an intermediary in place. That's because the GC is an Ethernet to IR/Serial device and HAI doesn't communicate with third party devices via Ethernet. Dan is right, you coulds use either a Xantech or Ocelot piece to accomplish the same thing via HAI. The GC will, unfortunately, remain unused...

You can use Home Automation software to control the TV channel. When the software detects the OmniPro coming out of Night mode it can transmit IR signals, via the GC-100, to turn on the TV and switch to the appropriate channel.

Premise Home Control is free and has drivers for the GC-100 and the OmniPro II. You'll need to acquire the Pronto-format IR codes for your TV either by learning them, using a GC-IRL or other IR learning device, or by downloading them from remotecentral.com. There's more work involved and I can help you if you choose this path.

Because it involves learning new software, this is a good solution only if you plan to do a lot more Home Automation in the future. Otherwise, explore the solutions involving direct communications between an OmniPro and a suitable IR transmitter.

If you need to unload the GC-100, I'm first in line.
