Got any busted Elk stuff?

I got asked to do another Security 101 session for the 'hood, as per this document that I showed y'all last year.

I've actually got very little Elk stuff left, most of it is has been installed. If you guys have any busted Elk M1's and anything else laying around, i'd love to use them as real-life demo's of what a system can do.

My trash-talking seems to have had an effect. We've had a wave of crime plus electricity rates are going up, so folks are interested in both the security & expanded HA capabilities. I've gotten a handful of folks to have Elk's installed, perhaps we can raise that #...

No such thing as busted ELK stuff............... ;)

Have you tried to contact Elk? They might be willing to loan/give you a demo system.

Your ongoing promotion of the M1G has sold a lot of systems for them, its worth a shot.

I do have 1 M1XIN that was ruined by water.

A leak in a water pipe inside a wall (new construction) caused water to follow the security contact wires right to the zone expander and fried it. Ironically, this served as a water detector since the monitoring company alerted me to a "trouble condition" with the panel so I had to go out for a service call. I alerted the builder once I saw what was happening and the damage was minimized. Many of the other ELK components got wet but I cleaned them off and the rest survived and have been in service for over 1 year now.

You are welcome to the M1XIN if you want it. It looks normal, just has a little corrosion on it.

Spanky reached out to me over PM. I don't need a demo system, a broken one is perfect cuz then I can mount to a piece of cardboard/mdf and use as my standing teaching tool.

Opie - i'll PM you about the M1XIN after I chat with Spanky.

thanks all!

Got the box today, thanks!

Too scared to open it given that I have functioning elk stuff nearby, i'll wait until I clean up stuff a little so I don't get them confused.

Watch yourself, electronics parts are a lot like some women! If your old electronics sees a new delivery, they might think they are getting replaced (especially if it's a similar part), then start acting flakey. Or they might get jealous and start doing some events just to mess with you.

The thing you really don't want to do is to have a friend borrow an electronic item, then return it to you and you place it back in service with the rest of your electronics (especially if your friend's house is a lot nicer than yours). That returned part will start talking about that "other" house with the rest of your components, then man, you really start having some problems... :)

Wouldnt it be easier to just pull the emotion's chip on all of your current boards? :) Worked for "Data"

IVB, the box of junk might be infested with Grivets.

Theory of Grivets:

Have you ever ordered something and when you receive it, it does not work. You return it to the manufacturer and they say "No Problem Found".

Here is a theory of what is happening as explained by a great guru.

The transportation industry is infested with 4 types of Grivets: North bound, South bound, East bound, and West bound.
If you live on the West coast and order something from the East Coast, West bound Grivets jump onto the electronics and disable it. When you get it, nothing works. You return it to the East Coast and the West bound Grivets die off, unable to travel East. The East bound Grivets see all the dead West bound Grivets and do not jump on. The manufacturer gets it and everything works fine.

The same thing happens for North and South bound Grivets.
We need a Grivet repellant!
