Great toy for the IT folks among us ...

Most of my USB drives (including the one in my wallet and keychain) are multi-boot, where this stands out is that it simulates a USB-CDROM drive, making it compatible with any bootable ISO. I also store every single software disc I have on the drive, so I can recover systems, backup/restore, install new software, etc, all without having to swap discs. I use this thing on a daily basis.

I was not aware of the CDROM emulation. If that's the case, then geesh, it should boot anything you have that's bootable!

That is REALLY AWESOME!

I think I'll be picking up one of these. I've got some custom boot cds that I made (loads of combined tools and what-not). They just will not boot from the USB...mostly due to being created with some WinXP SP0 stuff...that's how I found out about needing to be SP2+. It just was not worth my time to create a new disc or recreate the same disc and going through the hassle of slip streaming SP3 into it.

Wishlist... +1

Found it on Amazon for $0.20 more (after rebate), but free shipping ($5 savings).

I'll be placing my order soon.

Now, I need to find a decently sized and decently priced 2.5" Hard drive.

Needed 2.5" drive in a hurry last night so I went to BestBuy and picked up a 500GB WD Scorpio Blue for $59.99. In the box was 640GB (factory sealed). Score! Normally, I have been getting my drives from Newegg.

Nice one Barry!

I shouldn't have mentioned Amazon...I went there 10 min. ago to buy, and the price was up $8. Oh well...

Maybe I'll wait a few days see if it goes down.

Go as big as possible, makes it easier once you get the sudden urge to download every live CD out there ;)

I'm using the 1TB 2.5" SATA drives (15mm?) in all of the small PBO's I have in the house and they run OK so far....think I've purchased these for around $50 each. (I have 4 set up now). Looks like I have to get smaller drive for this device (12mm?).

Great suggestion Dan; great little device.

Dan,

How long did the NEWCUSTOMER10 last?

I setup an account for my wife, and the code doesn't seem to do anything.

Is valid until the end of May.

I can't say how much I have been using this thing, I have probably 50 ISO's on it, 30 of them are live CD's of all kind (forensic, disk analysis/repair, WinXP/7 PE, etc), and the rest of my Windows/Software install CDs. You can also use it to mount Blu-Ray images and floppy images. Very very useful device.

Awesome! There was some kind of BUG in their system with that code. Or it was that my address was already in there. My wife bought everything for me, so I contacted Newegg. Within 5 min. I had a response, they said e-mail them the order number and after it ships they will refund me the $10.

Bought a WD 500GB 2.5" drive and that USB container. I think the drive was a "Blue" something or other. I'd have to look at the order sheet to find out. Seemed to have really good reviews. Bought the 5400RPM version...saved me another $10, and I did not think that I would need the 7200RPM speeds. Of course this thing DOES have ESATA...so for the one or TWO times I would use it and get that kind of speed...I did not think it was worth it.

What do you use to make your WinXP/7 PE? I've been tempted, but the Bart's install seemed a bit complicated. Maybe I just need to "do it" to see how easy it really is.
