Just a newbie saying hello.

Cleveland, Ohio area based, and ran across your forum while researching a potential ELK security/automation panel purchase.   My home automation knowledge is minimal as I've just used x-10 stuff for years, lol..  This is a whole new level.

I've already learned quite a bit here just lurking and must compliment on the outstanding amount knowledge possessed by the members.  What an amazing resource.  Nice to find people that are of a similar mindset to learn about this area from. So, that's about it, much thanks and appreciation. I'll be lurking and listening.

I initially just wanted to add a cheap/simple Ademco Vista 20ip panel to my home, but like most things in my life, and it has turned into a considerably more complex and expensive concept with the realization that an ELK M1 would be a more suitable unit.  I am running some IP cams and will want to slowly tie the security, the cams, and automation together at some point and be able to control stuff from other locations, so, here I am.  lol...  Slowly gathering nerve and info. :)

I also was thinking about a Vista 20p for home use, automation, etc. I have never look back since deciding on the M1 over the Vista. At the time, I learned that the Vista was only capable of 16 relay/ X-10 outputs and knew that just wasn't going to be enough. Combine an M1 with a ISY-994i and you have a very powerful HA setup that doesn't require a PC to be left on.
