Haiku HAI and the iPAD

Hi. Okay I am having issues again getting the weather to display. I have tried zip codes, city name (Seattle) and all it says is " weather not available ". What am I doing wrong?

Also, is there an online manual for Haiku?

@torque: A fix has already been submitted to the App Store. Another fix is to update to iOS 5.

We don't have a manual yet, but we do have an FAQ/knowledge base at our web site http://www.nullriver.com/support

Guys I haven't bought this product but I am interested. I was curious if there is some way to keep the program running on the ipad and essentially replace my omnitouches? They are really terrible things - slow - poor calibration and just a very low resolution solution. We were so upset with the performance that we ended up putting a traditional console next to the omnitouch. I realized we weren't arming and disarming the alarm anymore and because it was a serious hassle on the omnitouch. With the ipad as "cheap" as they are I would be interested but I use h@me or snaplink but they are too slow to connect to the system. I would want something that stays online all of the time if possible. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Neil

Haiku-IPAD version is a perfect replacement for your omnitouch (graphics are not comparable to a Control4 app though). Just make sure you have a solid wifi connection.

Neil:

We've heard from a number of customers doing just that, installing iPads with Haiku on the walls. Haiku even has a "keypad mode" option that will make it behave correctly on the wall -- that is it will pop up the security code entry to disarm whenever an armed premises is entered, sound an alarm, pop up a disarm keypad if an alarm is sounded, countdown an arming timer, etc. and a number of other useful features such as pop up cameras, voice feedback, etc.

I'm one of those Lupinglade mentions. I just installed an iPad 2 at my front door (using an iDocx recessed mount). I have the iPad running Haiku and controlling security, HVAC, and lighting (once my installer finishes programming my RadioRa 2 set up). I also have the iPad running Sonos, Bria and an app for my security cameras that I may or may not integrate into Haiku. In Haiku's "keypad" mode, a typical keypad pops up when the alarm trips. The only thing you have to remember is that if you have to wake the iPad and if you have the iPad screen lock after a certain amount of time, you have to unlock it. I've got a very good connection with my network, so I've got no problems with time. I don't have an OmniTouch 5e, but I find the iPad/Haiku much more responsive (and capable) than my OmniTouch 5. Also, there is no doubt that it looks much nicer too.

Are you serious? You bought an iDocx for $299 minimum price on their site and then bought a charger for $150 more? That is as much as the ipad. Unless I am missing something that is awfully priced?!

Neil:
Uhh, yes. I am serious. I guess the iDocx is spendy. On the other hand, I don't know of a less expensive option that will create the elegant, seemless, integrated look I was going for. I mean, come on, you've got to admit it's pretty cool (or as my son would put it: It's da bomb-diggity).

Looks very very nice. Just too much dough. I mean how much did that setup cost you? Am I right that the dock doesn't include the power adapter? Did you buy their adapter or just make your own?

I did use the iDocx power adapter because my installer had prewired it with cat5e running to my equipment closet. I had actually wanted their second gen adapter (which can be powered by a POE switch, which I have) but it wasn't yet available. Price/value like many things is, in the end, a personal thing. I guess for my circumstances, and given the other equipment I had installed -- Lutron, Sonos, OmniStats and a Carrier Infinity SAM module (now that's an absurdly expensive component) -- the iDocx seemed like an appropriate extravagance. Also, I think if you look around at the alternatives (especially the older ones from Crestron, AMX and even Control4), this set up is more flexible, more powerful and less expensive.

Lupingdale:
I've got a question about Keypad mode. I've got my iPad set up so that the screen lock activates after 15 minutes. When we leave the house and set the alarm from Haiku, Haiku is the last program running. If we come back home (and it's been more than 15 minutes) the first thing we need to do is press the iPad's home button to "wake" the iPad. The we slide to unlock the screen. Once we've done that, I would expect Haiku to be running and the keypad to pop up. However, that is not the case. Even once we open Haiku, the keypad does not pop up. I suspect if I turn off the screen lock feature altogether that I won't have a problem, but I'd like to use it (just to save electricity and screen life). Is there anyway to make that happen?
Thanks.

you can install screendimmer (if you have JB) from cydia and it will do exactly what you want it to. Dim and turn off the LCD (but not lock). then simply touch the screen anywhere to wake it up into the last running application.

HaikuHelper is now available on the Mac App Store!

@SHRemote: the above suggestion by charliebarns would be the best solution. We will do some testing here with locking enabled to see if we can make it work better.
