give lots of details. My garage door lifter is by Chamberlain, and runs on 12VAC (as in not DC). Hence, I need a relay. Your mechanism may be different.

I have my garage doors controlled by my Omni. Yes I used relays, as they are AC, just wired the relay in parallel with the switch terminals then did a button in the Omni that triggers the relay on for 2 seconds.

Most garage door switch are AC which allows for three function switches using just diodes, full short for door, short half a phase for light, the other half for lock, so full short with relay triggers the door.

  • full short for door,
  • short half a phase for light,
  • the other half for lock,
so full short with relay triggers the door.

Thank you for telling me what the other direction of diodes means. Now I need to figure out whether I want light or lock controllable by the ELK, or consume a third relay for each door.
