Switching the LEDs will be difficult unless you have the right surface mount soldering equipment. BUT it is easy to adjust the keyboard lighting level after the timeout. I have mine set so its barely lit unless you are pretty close and its pretty dark. You can also turn them off completely unless they are pressed.
Another option would be to put a red filter over each LED. That would be easier than replacing them. Then the keypad would be purple. And finally, if you look around, you can find keypad covers. They are made for outside to protect the keypad from weather but they can work inside as well.
Maybe the next version will have a changeable color like the thermostats.
