HAI OmniPro II and Compose plus UPB

I have an HAI OmniPro II setup using Compose lighting and as we all know Compose is no longer with us. Although Compose has been flawless for years it must be replaced because I have keypads and dimmers that have died.

So I am now trying slowly replace devices as they die and currently i am trying to replace a 6-Button compose keypad with an HAI 38A00-1 6-Button keypad.

Upstart can see the keypad and i have the NID and network password and device ID, which i have added into PCA

i tried a simple program:

1. WHEN Top of Stairs Keypad SW1 PRESSED
THEN HallOffice TOGGLE

but it doesn't work.
i must have something wrong in the setup

i have an HAI PIM
i have an HAI serial cable plugged from the PIM to serial port 1 on the HAI controller
i have in PCA -> Setup -> Expansion -> Serial set to UPB w/baud at 9600

i set the Keypad as device number 81 both in Upstart and in PCA -> Steup -> Units
and in PCA -> Setup -> Units the device is set as UPB

is there something more i am missing?

thanks!
steve

I think you haven't gotten responses because some information is missing.

1 - The keypad you are replacing controls which devices?

2 - Are those other devices Compose or UPB?

Also, we are located about 15 miles from the Lightolier factory and can still get Compose items.

I like the idea of migrating to UPB though.

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to control both with the HAI system. Please just let us know a little more about your set up

HAI sells two different serial cables, and only one of them works for connecting a PIM to a controller. Off the top of my head, I can't recall which is which. I'll go look.

Skip that; the correct cable comes with the HAI PIM. The cable I was thinking of is the one that has a DB-9 connector at the other end for connecting to a computer's serial port. That's a separate part.

Here's something to check. I notice that you've configured port 1 as UPB. The OPII comes from the factory with port 3 already configured for UPB. I recall something about UPB functions in the controller not working right if more than one port is configured as UPB. Check the configuration of your other serial ports.

i'll get the HAI part numbers for the serial cable and reply again.

i have only the first serial port configured for UPB on the HAI panel.
and what i'm hoping to achieve is to start replacing faulty Compose devices with UPB devices. I'm using genuine HAI UPB devices. what i need now is to replace a couple compose keypads with UPB keypads and then program the UPB keypad presses to control compose devices/scenes.
