HAI OmniPro II and Lutron Homeworks

Has anyone been able to integrate Lutron HomeWorks with HAI Omnipro II? I am setting up a dedicated server with Microsoft Home Server as the operating system and looking at installing the HAI WL3 add-in. HAI Tech Support stated that there was direct support for the Lutron Radio RA system, but the HomeWorks system will only be provided minimal on/off support, without feedback, through the RS-232 port. My Lutron HomeWorks is already installed so switching to Radio RA is not a practical option.

Seeuu5,

I have been working on that problem for about six months. Got it working pretty darn good. I have a Omnii pro II board and a 5-6 year old Homeworks 4. Had the Homeworks long before the Omnii. Its a long detailed solution. You need to know homeworks pretty good (the software). It might be easier if we talk over the phone.

Where are you located?

Seeuu5,

Now that I have more time (was headed out the door when I responded).
What exactly do you want the HAI and HWS. to do?

Thanks
Mike

Hick: I'm located in Parker, CO--a suburb of Denver. My original intent was so use Premise SYS for automation (lighting, thermostats, media) but as I already had the HAI OmniPro II with the thermostats (9) linked in, I wondered if that would be the easier route.

John,

I live in Eagle CO. just west of Vail.

With the economy in the tank, I decided to integrate HAI and Lutron because they are both paid for and installed in my home. Plus I really like my Homeworks system. Its rock solid. I have been using Homeworks for about 4-1/2 years in my home. Not one issue. None.

Its not a complete integration, but functional. HAI Buttons send rs232 to lutron keypads in the home and the lights come on and off. Plus using presets and phantom keypads in Lutron, HAI can query Lutron to see which lights are on or off in the Lutron system, thats switches a unit in HAI so I can use Lutron status in my programing. Works well.

Added you as a friend. send me a PM and we can talk some more if you are interested.

Seeuu5,

I was at a learn about new products promotion at a kinda local distributor's office. One of the speakers was from HAI. He mentioned that HAI has embedded Lutron Homeworks into the next release of their firmware. Soon to be released.

That would be nice.

My thoughts are wait a little bit and see if it is released?

He also said that HAI likes to release their firmware in 3 month increments. So should be soon, then we will know for sure. Not just something I heard at a sales promotion .

Good morning,

Great news.

If you go to the HAI web site and get on their blog page HAI is showcasing the Lutron Homeworks app at EHX this week in Orlando. Should be coming to us soon.

Thanks Mike

I came across this thread a few months ago, signed up on the forum, but was never able to send a PM - I get an error. Anyway, I also have an HAI Omni II and Homeworks, and also live in Colorado (Manitou Springs)! I would like to hear more on how/what you did to integrate the two, I have been dabbling in the Arduino micro-controller world and was thinking of developing a Atmel AVR based controller to give me some web access, but before I re-invent the wheel I thought I'd ask here!

Input?

Thanks!

Steve,

I have my older Homeworks 4 connected to my Omnii Pro2 board using one of the 5 ports. You will need version 3.1 or higher on your hai board. Made my own cable using cat5 between the units. RJ45 at the HAI side, DB9 on the lutron side plugged into the lutron programing port. I'm using the latest firmware and software on the HAI.

I have the programing software for Homeworks so I have access to the lutron side, that you will also need.

Fair amoumt of blocks in pc access (depending on how many lutron lights you have) to to monitor the status of the lurton lights. When you press a lutron keypad or switch HAI will record the status change. But if you turn on the light (lutron) with HAI switch, or any trigger, you then have to ask lutron for a staus change. That you have to do in PC access.

For web access I use HAIKU on my Ipad and Iphone. Plus I can use PC Access on my laptop also. But HAI also has some other options also.

Fair amount of work but it works great.

I have been looking for a whitepapers myself on this subject for a long time and have only found bits and pieces to help me. So all my work has been trial and error.

Since you are a fellow Coloradoan go ahead and e-mail me @ [email protected] and I will replay back with my phone number if you would like to discuss it some more.

Thanks
Mike
