Hi All,

New to this forum but been in the "industry" for several years, use to install alarm/cctv/automation in Vancouver for many years before I got a job at the City.... moved to the interior...etc.

We just bought a new house and am planning on installing some automation and an alarm.

I have several DSC panels and accessories and lots of X-10 laying around from the old days (5010, 5580, 5932, etc) and was going to start on installing but thought I would catch up first.

From what I have been reading it looks like I might not want to install my outdated DSC stuff but maybe spend a few dollars on a new "cross platform" panel (ELK M1 gold kit) and upgrade some old X-10 to the Insteon stuff.

Over time i want to integrate everything... starting with security and lighting and maybe HVAC but intend to do some pool and hot tub control and perhaps even add some solar heating and PV panels.

Am i on the right track for a system that will integrate and expand as the budget (Wife) permits?

Any suggestions from the seasoned vets.

As i stated earlier I have no problem running wires, or even with computer programming so I want to start right withouth having to upgrade again in a few years because I underestimated my needs.

Anyway, glad to be here, looking forward to learning and sharing as I go along.

Cheers!

Matt

hi WetCoastWillie,

Welcome to CocoonTech!

I would definitely look at the ELK M1 or the HAI Omni Pro if you want a certified security system while still enjoying many home automation features.
