Moving back to Melbourne after 10 years in Seattle. Just bought some land in a subdivision called springthorpe.
My wife's best friend's husband is a sparky down there, and does plenty of high/low voltage, but don't know if he's ever worked on cbus. I'll have to find out.
Over here in the US, you can do your own electrical work (as long as you own the house) - so I've done all the electrical work on my house over here. It's a different system here.
You get the electrical permit first, then the inspectors come over to talk with you about the work you are going to do before you do it, they come and inspect before the drywall goes up, and then they inspect again when it's all finished. The permit fee includes the cost of the inspections.
(you can't help your friends out, or touch anyone elses stuff without having a license)
I found it great - I did some extensive rewiring of my 30 year old kitchen when I gutted it and took it down to the studs, and the inspector was very helpful - especially on the trickiest part of the job where I had some aluminuum wiring that I had to join with copper.
I'm definately going to go with the Elk M1.
What do you use for blind controllers? you waiting for that new cbus blind controller to come out or are you using something that interfaces more directly with the elk?
