Homelink RF compatibility w/ GE/Elk RF key fob

Hi,

I'm trying to think of a way to use my car's built in homelink garage door opener buttons to talk to the Elk? From what I understand, x10 rf is compatible but I'm a bit worried about securing my house with a signal that I believed could be "replayed" easily. Homelink appears to be able to learn signals that the GE Caddx / Elk wireless frequency uses but there are no details around protocol compatibilities. I'd imagine that the GE / Elk have some method of securing the communication but it isn't clear if its proprietary or some standard compatible with Homelink. All I can find on the Homelink site is a reference that it is compatible with the "Keeloq" rolling code protocol.

I could just purchase a separate key fob remote to do this but I'd prefer to use the built in Homelink remote as it can't get lost or stolen (unless the car goes with it!). :-) From what I understand, a common practice in the past for thieves was to break into a car parked downtown, get the insurance/registration address, take the garage door opener and make a house call...

I'd appreciate any thoughts or opinions!

Thanks!

Steve

Hi,

I'm curious as well to know if I can use my HomeLink with my new Elk wireless receiver. Anybody figure this out yet?

Thanks,
Brad
