HomeSeer and connectivity

Hi guy,

I just bought a new and i'm thinking a lot about HA. I've read a couple of topic here and i'm thinking about HomeSeer.

I want a Pc based controller. Wired or wireless sensor but preferably wireless become the house is finished (gybroc everywhere). Cameras, humidity, lighting, co2, water valve, etc.

My questions:

With Homeseer installed on my computer, what interface will i need? Or what are the most interface used for sensor ? Serial, ip, etc?
Is the program allows to do some logic like: When this sensor detect high humidity start the bathroom fan ?

Here my Homeseer software (two boxes) is running via hardware connected mostly serially and some USB via one USB cable to many devices:
1 - USB cable to a Digi 7 port USB Hub ==> one W2C USB box
2 - ============================== > one USB 9097 1-wire device
3 - ============================== > #1 Digi 8 port Edgeport connected to 8 serial devices
4 - ============================== > #2 Digi 8 port Edgeport connected to 8 serial devices

5 - ============================== > testing and using 4 serial to network devices (Quatech)
6 - ============================== > testing and using 4 USB devices via Digi USB Anywhere

Works for me; many years now.

I have some feelings about Homeseer that some may consider controversial. I've been using HS at my current home since 2008. My observations of HS are that to be a happy user you should either be very good at structured programming (like VB.net) or have very modest expectations. You may need to write your own code for drivers and automation rules. I'm pretty sure anything to do with cameras should be done outside of HS.

I would suggest you spend a lot of time at the HS forum and read the posts before jumping in. See how the users are liking or complaining about the software and especially the plugins. Check if the reported issues are addressed or not. See if the writer of the plugins you may need still support them. One thing I will say about HS is that there are a lot of very skilled people on the forums who are a great help (kind of like this forum).

I'm planning a new construction home for December move in. I will not be using Homeseer. 'nuf said.

hmmmk.

But is there a big advantage to take the homeseer instead of a system like VERA3. Because i'm not a programmer...

For me, the hardest task i can think i want to do, is having 2 cameras, recording for certain amount of time when they (or separate sensor) detect motion . And i want the data saved on my server. Keeping like 24h of recording. I want to be able activate and watch them remotely .
