In-Wall touchscreen w/ computer

Very nice install djsl! Can you tell us more? What did you pay for the new touchscreen? How's the reliability ie: reboots of your PC? Any closeups of the 1/4 MDF frame against the wall? Finally, what is that thing located in the single gane box below the new touchscreen? Looks like it has a bunch of holes in it??

thx

boyfly,
Are you interested in DJSL's in wall touchscreen hardware? Or also the software? Or also the HA and media hardware behind that?

I'm most interested in the HA and media hardware... although more pics of anything would be cool to drool over. ;)

Here are some pics of the new HSTouch HomeSeer touch screen software interface if you like eye candy :) There are many more on the HomeSeer forums.

CB the price for Elo 1537L touchscreen with Intellitouch technology was around 475. A little expensive but in my opinion well worth it.
the older Planar 15 inch touchscreen with 5 wire resistance was around 125 on Ebay but it was used.

The setup is very reliable just as long as I am not changing things around. Unfortunately I have never subscribed to the concept of "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

I have added some pics on the install and updated the equipment list.

The idea on making the frame with velcros I got from MikeW from this forum, he has more info on how to make it.

The single gang box that you are referring to is part of an intercom system.

What hardware, may I ask, is connected to the serial port?

To extend the serial connection I simply use DB9F-RJ45F adapters and because I have so many serial connections I use an Edgport USB to serial with 8 ports

Check out my showcase... I use a ELO touchscreen as well as Nokia 770's for my Now Playing interface

I also used an ELO touchscreen from ebay and am having good luck with it so far. The link to my install is in my signature.

for those of you using the elos in wall how do you handle dimming/turning off the monitor. That is, as an example after 1 minute of no activity dim or shutoff the monitor? Are you just using the built-in windows standby/energy saver mode? If so what's the wake up time like?

thanks

Actually for me I use a Netremote/Girder LUA script to send the system in standby after 20 minutes of no use. After 3 minutes of no activity it switches to the fish screensaver which is quite nice.

When its in standby... just touching the ELO anywhere will wake it up and within 10 seconds its ready to use again. So it saves not only the ELO but the laptop power.

The way I have it set up is after 15 min the screensaver comes on and after a couple of hours of inactivity I let windows turn the monitor off. When the alarm is turned on at night or when I am away from home I use a x10 appliance module to shut the power off to the monitors.
