Installing 2nd keypad, lost comm

Lugnut,

Are you sure that you have been through the ENROLLMENT process? I see that its been mentioned in several responses but I don't seem to find where you have acknowledged that you have tried that. The problem you describe is a classic situation where the newly added device has not been enrolled.

re: enrollment,

I may be confused on this, but when I set the keypad address to 2, and it then displays the "lost comm" error, none of the keys on the keypad are functional. So I didn't think there was any way to proceed to the enrollment process of pressing the Elk key, then up arrow, etc. (?)

edit: Thank you for asking that again bphilips! After I typed the above reply, it occurred to me that maybe I don't have to enroll the 2nd keypad from the 2nd keypad. Wah-lah! problem solved by using the first keypad to enroll the second. I was assuming that the dead keys on the 2nd keypad meant I couldn't proceed to enrollment of that keypad. Oops.

Sorry for being a bonehead guys.

Sorry for being a bonehead guys.
When it comes to cutting edge ELK product installations there are no boneheads. If the problem can't be solved on this forum then you probably have the one in 1,000,000 defective part.

rfdesq is right, there are no boneheads. As long as you are willing to ask a question and seek help, sooner or later you will get the right directions or answers from this forum.

And thanks for the product endorsement rfdesq. See you at the next show.

You can not enroll devices from a keypad that is not already enrolled. The unenrolled keypad is not working yet.

Note: Keypad address 1 is always enrolled, therefore you should use keypad 1 to enroll the rest of the devices on the data bus.

All things are not obvious. Don't feel bad, you are not the first and will not be the last!!! :)
