Insteon and Elk M1 Gold Connections

Does the Insteon and elk M1 only communicate over the Ethernet connections or do you use the RJ45 port (PLC Lighting Interface) on the M1 Board to connect to the PLM? I have a Isy994i Pro and a Dual band PLM.

Any Help would be appreciated.

To connect with the ISY, you need the M1EXP Ethernet interface option to give the M1 LAN access. The M1G and the ISY communicate with each other over the LAN. You can control lighting from the M1 through the ISY by using the export feature to export an M1 lighting configuration file. It gets saved to a PC and then you import it to the M1. You can then use M1 programming rules to control lighting events very much the same as you would using X10 and the PLC interface. I am running this configuration and use the ISY as the interface to the Insteon network. I did this to both, centralize my automation, security, fire, control in one controller, and to allow sharing of security sensors such as door switches, etc. to control lighting actions.
