I have an MDS-6a unit and would like to better intigrate it into my home automation system (elk m1g, isy99/insteon). The mds-6a communicates with all of the individual conrtollers via cat5 using an rs485 connection protocol. I am fairly certain this is how the elk communicates with its keypads. Anyway, there has got to be a way to plug that same data line into a computer and have the computer emulate the control pads and thus bring the sound system into the world of everything else. I am not an EE, just a guy who tinkers with this stuff and sometimes succeeds. I would love to hear ideas on this!
