Integrating Homeworks QS and HAI

HAI has built in functionality for *classic* homeworks and for RadioRA2.

But I have the new Lutron system which is Homeworks QS. The integration protocol looks much closer to RadioRA2 (use of integration IDs) than to the classic homeworks protocol (hex-based device ids). And it appears from the integration guide that RA2 protocol is a subset of Homeworks QS. So in theory, I should be able to connect to Homeworks QS using the RA2 settings on HAI (serial port configuration and house codes).

One problem is that HAI only supports RA2 via serial, but Homeworks QS processor only has ethernet (not serial) ports. I have followed Lutron's note to use DigiOne SP to convert from serial to ethernet.

I can see from the terminal screen in the Lutron software, with all monitoring on, that no commands sent from hai appear to be reaching Lutron.

I contacted HAI tech support but they said they haven't tested QS.

Has anyone connected HAI to Homeworks QS?

Thanks for any guidance.

So, yes, I have achieved two way communication between HAI OmniPro2 and Lutron Homeworks QS using the RadioRA2 functionality built into HAI.
  1. The new Lutron Homeworks QS processor does not have a serial port. You must install the Lutron QSE-CI-NWK-E Control Interface (“NWK”), connecting it to the QS processor via Lutron 4-wire.

Ultimately the NWK connects to the HAI via an HAI serial port using HAI Model 36A05-4 Serial Connectivity Adapter Kit. However, both the NWK serial port and the free end of the HAI adapter kit are female db-9.
  1. So two adapters are necessary between the NWK and HAI serial adapter kit (order does not matter)
  • A straight through male-male db-9 connector (male on both sides in order to connect two female connectors together.
  • A cross-over (null modem) adapter
  1. Configure:
  • Set the Serial Function for the serial port on the HAI controller to RadioRA 2.
  • Use the dip switches on the NWK to set baud rate to match that on the HAI (I have only confirmed using 9600 baud).
  • Read the note in the HAI knowledge base concerning RadioRA2.

This is good info, i plan to go this route. I just have a bit of time till my build is ready, hoping for native QS support, or an OPIII

Sorry for digging up this old thread.

I have a Homeworks QS system and a QSE-CI-NWK-E and an HAI Omnipro 2.

Can you tell me if the QSE-CI-NWK-E needs to be defined in the Lutron QS project file? Does it require settings or configuration or programming? Does it need to be connected to a specific processor link (4 wire data/power bus) or will any do?

Thanks.

Keeping this zombie post alive... I added the QSE-CI... to the Lutron system. So now....

I have a Lutron QSE-CI-NWK-E connected (4 wire lutron bus) to QS Link 1 of Processor 2 on my Homeworks QS system.

I have RS-232 connected between the QSE-CI-NWK-E and the Omni Pro 2.

In the Homeworks QS program i have added the QSE-CI-NWK-E link assigned and activated. No other configuration or programming has been done.

Communication has been verified because we can press a Lutron keypad hard button and send a command to the HAI system.

My problem...

How do i send commands from HAI to the Lutron system. Be as specific as possible. Pretend i don't know anything about this (because i don't).

Best case would be to have a Phantom keypad in the Homeworks QS program where i could program 10-20 buttons...that i could "press" via sending a command from the HAI system.

Willing to settle for sending all manual (kitchen light on, dining light on, foyer light on etc) commands from HAI...turning lighting loads on or off.

Knowing nothing about HAI... i need someone to tell me what commands i can send and where i can send the commands from.

Thanks.
