Has anyone attempted to use the iON Plunger-G Wireless door sensor to monitor if a deadbolt is locked or unlocked?

I've done similar using traditional plungers, but I think you're going to run into a little difficulty as they don't have the typical flanges and spacers that hardwired units have.

I am really interested in adding deadbolt monitoring to my home automation system. What are the traditional plunger hardwire options?

Depends on what sort of clearance your door/lock combo has, can be magnetic or mechanically operated, however it's strictly a brew your own solution.

I am surprised an off the shelf solution doesn't exist for this (like door/window sensors). I would like my Elk M1 to remind me if my dead bolts are not locked by a certain time...

Believe it or not, the market for such a product is very limited compared to security or access control. Factor in the construction differences in a door jamb, let alone wire path (or space for a transmitter) I can't see there being 1-2 products that would facilitate this off the shelf.

If you have enough space, almost any tamper switch/plunger type would work, however I can't see a door contact style plunger working in many applications because of the throw the bolt would need to actuate the plunger.
