@Mike. The smiley indicated it was humour but I should have marked it (sarcasm), maybe. Sorry you bit.
It was just an old retort we often heard through the ages.
Since I stopped driving North American style vehicles they all last more than the expected 6 year from a Chev, and the 4 years to scrap pile, I got out of my Ford Econoline van. It was riddled with rust holes everywhere, as were all my GM and Ford vehicles after 6-8 years.
Ohh, I had a Chrysler product back in the 60's that didn't rust out. It caught on fire that destroyed it.
I have owned 3 Toyota vehicles since 1993 and every one were traded in fully functional, and without body rust. My current RAV4 got 50 mpg crossing the prairies through the Dakotas. You know the figure GM and Ford said was impossible in the 70s?
Hell, on my last Camry I only changed the oil 5 times in 210,000km. They don't need it. That should tell you I don't even wash my vehicles, let alone do preventative maintenance. I only drive them.
IOW I don't drive American style vehicles, now, and never will again, after being ripped off by the giants for too many years.
BTW: I am North American. Not what YOU may consider American, but Canadian. Soon, we will both be Chinese anyway.
