IR emitter Extended over Cat5e. Possible?

One of my clients has a GC-100 controller in the basement of his house controlling some of his whole house components. He a has a XM Radio in his kitchen that he would like to control via IR with the GC as well. There is a 100 ft Cat5e run that I would like to use to extend an emitter. Has any one done this? Is there a better easier way to get IR control of this IR Device (outside of powermids, there not a pretty or clean option)?

I installed an IR receiver over about 70 feet of Cat5 to a hub and it works fine.
