It's Not Dark Outside, Mr Elk

I have a rule to turn on a light when the front door opens and it is dark outside. I have noticed that the light sometimes turns on even before sunset. Today I got home at about 6:48 and the light turned on. Sunset today is 7:45. I have the correct time in the Elk, as well as the correct lattitude/longitude and time zone. What could I be missing?

How does your program define "dark"? If it bothers you when lights come on before sunset, could you not add a condition that it must be dark AND after sunset?

In the M1, "dark" = after sunset and before sunrise of the next day.

There used to be a bug that "dark" was not set properly the first day after a power up, but that was fixed a long time ago. I think many of us have similar rules based upon "dark" that work fine every day. So the only thing that comes to mind is either user error (you seem to have everything set right) or ElkRP isn't syncing with your control correctly.

You can inspect the M1's calculated times for sunrise and sunset for every day of the year in ElkRP (don't have the location handy right now). It would be instructive to check this list against your actual light on/off experience.

EDIT: The location is (unsurprisingly) under Sunrise/Sunset, the same place you set your latitude, longitude and time zone.

Perhaps a silly suggestion, but what is the date in the Elk. If it is incorrect, the sunset/sunrise lookup will be incorrect also.

yup..got bitten by that one too... B) Also for some reason my lat/lon had reset it itself once and i thought i was somewhere in the middle of the country rather than east coast...that combined with the DST had me scratching my head for a while. I think my lat/lon reset may have been after a powerdown/powerup...
