Hi,

I know I am new here and I have searched some

I am trying to find some form of a standalone keypad that I can interface with either homeseer or girder that will alow me to have physical buttons on my HA system for light control and such however I would like indicators on the switchs when it is on I have looked at the INSTEON Remote Control Dimmer Keypad how to the cost is extremely prohibitive at this phase of my project.

any help or ideas would be great Thanks,
yonu

I know one of the PIN keypads from AO is an RS232 device as I was contemplating this myself. The protocol is available, so you'd have to write the plugin/driver yourself.

that is interesting question is there anything that maybe ethernet or powerline interface as I am looking at5 putting in like 5-6 keypads so serial maybe out

sorry, ao=automatedoutlet.com .

You wouldn't run multiple on a single serial port, each would need their own port, but most folks with bigtime HA setups have 8way serial cards (or more) anyhow.

yeah i could make the tabletop one work if i can't find anything else and 8 serial cards in a sytem in alot of years idj't realize there was a alot of serial HA equipment

Not 8 serial cards...a single PCI card that has 8 serial ports on it. Moxa, among others. You can also get pretty cheap serial add-on cards with 4 ports on them...I think I got one off newegg a while ago.

I know I looked into the whole generic keypad thing a while ago, but I can't remember what I found, whether it led to deadends or not. If I ever have keypads, that's what I'll have to do too, as I'm elkless.

thanks again guess I will do some searching unless I can pick up some used INSTEON 6-Button Scene Control somewhere as they would meet my need perfectly just to expensive
