Leviton Omni Brand

Hi folks!

I feel like there's been very little new innovation with this brand lately.  Is that writing on the wall for Leviton/Omni -- do they have a roadmap that involves security?

I ask this because, with all the newer wireless, cloud, Internet type options coming on the market at the consumer level, shouldn't we expect some revitalization of a wired solution like Leviton Omni to refresh itself?

My cabinet has so many "add on" boards and modules, it looks and feels more like a hobbyist project than a modern day security/automation system.  I guess that's a good thing because of the ala'carte nature...?

Thus, my question... did CES reveal any new innovation in terms of this Omni/ELK space where we're going to see some of these brands die off and/or get refreshed/renewed, or perhaps some of you saw new brands coming to compete in this space?

Flame Protection: I don't operate as a professional in this market, I am just a automation hobbyist that started back with OnQ building/wiring my own homes since then.  :)

Any comments/insights?

Happy Friday!

Nothing relating to what Leviton is telling us here on the forum or any other forum relating to the Omni stuff that they own now.

no.

Most if not all of the long time Omni Users here have connected their Omni Panels to software to add more features to it in a DIY fashion.

You can run software today on little computers that will fit nicely inside a media can (well not all Omni media cans).

Thanks for the comment.

Do you mean other than Dealer Access 3?  Anyone else willing to elaborate on Pete's opinion?

Yes.

Much of this stuff based on a HAI Omni API published in 2009 and never updated to current firmware release so its been mostly just hit or miss reverse engineering without support form Leviton.  Funny too that they advertise this stuff on their website.

Software mentioned here much of the time is CQC and Homeseer (which work with the OP2 panel)

Hardware / firmware like Samsung Smartthings.

Opensource like OpenHAB and Home assistant.

Mobile iOS and Android applications like Space and NQ Link.

Here been tinkering with an OpenWRT microrouter inside of the OmniPro 2 can which is about 1" X 2" and 3/4" high that runs software talking to both ethernet ports (and OP2 ethernet port) plus can also run software based on a serial connection to the OmniPro 2.  Tiny firmware device that speaks LUA just fine. There isn't much space for plugins on it but with some tight programming it can do the basics of the OmniPro 2 panel. Well now too you can run (eclipse) Mosquitto on it for more OP2 candy. (currently not utilizing WAP on it and just two ethernet ports plus RTC with battery).
