Light won't turn off with physical switch or App

I think i posted my issue in the wrong spot earlier. I'll go in and try and delete it.

I've got an HAI omnipro II system with all HAI dimmers and 15amp relay switches.
Things have worked fine for 1.5yrs and I use PC Access for configuration when needed.

There was a wind/rain storm at my house yesterday and all lights to the house dimmed a little bit once or twice but never really went off. All seemed fine but then last night I tried turning off the kitchen ceiling pot lights and they won't turn off or dim or do anything other than stay on. I tried using my iphone (H@me app) and also using the 600w physical dimmer switch on the wall and they just won't turn off. All other automated switches in the house work perfectly including another dimmer switch i have in the kitchen for under cabinet lights.
These problem ceiling pot lights have 1 HAI 600w dimmer switch and an auxillary switch on the other side of the room.

So my kitchen lights didn't stay on all night i pulled the airgap out and that turns out the lights.

Any suggestions?

The storm may have put some sort of spike or something that put the switch into some strange state. You could try resetting the switch by turning off the breaker that feeds that circuit for about 10 seconds then turning it back on. This will "reboot" all of the switches on the circuit. If this doesn't do it I would recommend contacting technical support.

Thanks -
I checked to make sure no breakers were tripped and there wasn't. After I did that I went ahead and flipped the Kitchen breaker to off and then back on about 2 seconds later.

Should I try that again and wait 10seconds?
If I do it for 10seconds and you say it resets the switch will I have to add it to the system again?

The configuration is stored in nonvolatile memory so turning off the power is not a problem. If the configuration is lost I would attribute it to the storm/surge.

There is nothing magical about 10 seconds, I just meant long enough for the device to actually go completely off. Flipping the breaker off and right back on as many people do to reset the breaker is not long enough. The LED on the power brick for my laptop will stay on for about 25 seconds after I unplug it!

Don't forget that HAI UPB devices have a physical cutoff switch. It's a little lever at the bottom, underneath the rocker paddle. You have to get your fingernail or a knife point underneath it and swivel it out from the wall. Leave it off for a while, and then turn it back on and see what happens.

If you try to turn it off via PC Access, does it status as "off" even though it's on? If so, the triac has probably shorted.

I had a similar issue when trying to power 400W worth of electronic low voltage pot lights... it would fry switches like this (fried 2!) whenever dimming was done a few times... turning the switch on or off will send the UPB messages and even change the status light (IIRC), but the load (lights) will stay lit regardless. Power cycle, reconfiguration via UPB software, etc does not make any difference. Something gets toasted in the switch and it just gets stuck in the "ON" state forever. I had to change the switch to an appliance non dimmable switch and its working fine now. But in your case I guess the storm must have fried it. I'm afraid you will need a new switch :(

If rebooting the switch did not resolve the problem then the switch is probably damaged and you should contact HAI tech support (or your dealer) about getting a new one.

FYI: In regard to some of the other posts concerning dimming of inductive loads, low voltage lighting, etc. this switch is definitely not designed to do this and attempting to dim these types of loads may damage the switch and or the load. I don't think this is your particular problem as you did not mention trying to dim a non dimmable load and if you were I doubt that it would have lasted 1.5 years. I suspect a storm surge of some sort...

If you have one of our 600W dimmers and wish to control non dimmable loads I strongly urge you to configure the switch as non dimmable. You can do this using UpStart. This includes CFL lights that are not designated as dimmable. The 600W dimmer (35A00-1) which has been configured as "non-dimming" is equivalent to a 35A00-3.

Again this is just an FYI.

Yep it must be fried. When I click the lights on it says their on within my H@me app and same thing with off. The system thinks it's obeying the commands but its really not.
I talked to HAI support and they want me to send it in.
