Linksys switch

I have a Linksys 8 port SRW2008P switch that has a very noisy fan. It provides me with PoE for several devices but I do not use but a fraction of its PoE power capability so I think I can slow the fan a bit without overheating it. I think it is a simple 3 wire fan and I want to add a speed control so I can slow it down a bit and lower the noise level. My problem is that I cannot see any way to open the case. No screws or other indication on how the case goes together. I am sure it is a simple task if you know the secret. Construction appears to be the same for other Linksys switches. Anyone here know how to open the case?

just guessing, since I don't know the device... screws under a label? screws under a footpad?

What are the holes for, on the right, circled in red? Maybe a Torx screw, or hex?

I believe those are for a rack mount ear.

Correct. Has brackets to let you mount it in a 19" rack.

Ref other questions...no holes under labels or otherwise exposed. It appears like the front or back face plate will come off but gentle prying did not release them. I suspect one of them has a hidden tab that will relese if you do it right. However, I do not want to get too heavy handed with it without knowing the right way to do it. I poked around in some of the open holes to see it there was a hidden tab release somewhere and did not find anything like that.

I found someone online who claimed to have opened this switch, and changed the power from 12v to 8v using a regulator, decreasing fan speed and noise.

You could post there, asking for the answer, but I doubt it will help.

You could try linksys tech support, and keep asking until you get an engineer.

Or, use a Dremmel.

Found someone else who modded:

I had already seen both of those and that is what had me headed in the direction of changinh fan speed. However, neither of those identifed HOW they opened the case. I doubt Linksys will provide much info on this as I am sure opening the case will void the warentee. However, I may be forced to contact Linksys.

I searched for 'open linksys switch case' (not in quotes), and found a few examples of opening other cases, but nothing for the srw2008p.

Bingo...perfect match for what my switch looks like and I am sure this is how mine will open. It is what I suspected but wanted to make sure before I damaged the case. I am out of town on business right now but will tackle this when I get home. I did several Google searches and I did not spot this site. Thanks for your diligence in helping me.
