Lutron Sivoia QED integration

Is anyone using these shades? How do you integrate with them? RS-485 (unsupported), HAI+Homeworks, or the simple CCI relay interface...

Thanks -- Bob

P.S. My research indicated someone asked this question in May of 2006 with no answer. Hopefully I'll have better luck in May of 2010.

What are you trying to integrate them with?

Cleanest way is with a Lutron HW Series 4 processor and Q96. This gives you full RS232 or Contact Closure control.

Probably not the cheapest.

Like Herdfan said, what are you trying to integrate with? Is there an existing homeworks lighting control system? Do you already have these shades installed? If so, are they RF shades?

If you do not have the shades installed/purchased I would use the Lutron RF QS Shades and a RA2 main repeater. You can then use either RS232 or TCP/IP to integrate by talking to the main repeater.

I do know of a HW4 processor which was part of a demo board at my former employers which could probably be had for cheap (and 1 wallbox power module, 1 RF aux repeater and 1 keypad).

I also just sent an email off to my supplier for a quote on the Q96 integrator.

Few more ?'s.

If you do already have QED shades, how are they powered?

SVQ-10-PNL (10 shade power panel)
SV-100SF-PI (100va plugin transformer)
SV-100SF-JBOX (single shade plugin transformer)
XV-50SF-PI (50va plugin transfomer)

I'm integrating them with CQC TouchScreens, and an ELK security system (lighting is ALC). My shade switches are simple momentary rockers which I have insterted into single gang wall plates (I want consistent non-proprietary switches).

I told all of my shade installers to provide simple motor shades so I could use relays to drive the shades up and down from ELK outputs which are controlled by CQC or the Switches. I could use RS-232 from CQC instead of the elk as the shades are not "mission critical".

The shade installer for my media room apparently didn't understand the concept and he has already mounted six of the Sivoia QED shades in my windows (though he still has to remove the awful Lutron fabric and replace it with pretty Hunter Douglas fabric). Fortunately they ran the funky seven conductor wire, so I'm not completely screwed.

I believe he intends to power them via the SVQ-10-PNL. If I can't find a better solution I'll make him give me three CCI8s to satisfy my integration requirements. How does that compare in cost to a Q96 + HW4 + rs232?

P.S. Thanks for you help!

If you don't mind a demo HW4 processor (it was what I used to get certified) I *think* i can get you in around $1200 + shipping. It all depends on how interested my former employer in selling the HW4 processor that he is no longer certified to handle. A HW4 processor and Q96 seems like overkill to get control over those shades unless you were planning to add lighting loads to the HW4 system.

Had your shades guy used QS RF shades instead you would only need a RadioRa2 repeater @ a fraction of that cost.

As far as the Lutron fabric, there are limitless fabric options for lutron shades right down to you selecting your own. Your shades guy probably got the most base fabric available.
