M1KP termination point

Hi

I have a Elk M1 gold that I moved from my California house to my Texas house.
I have the house wired now, getting ready to connect things.

I have a M1DBH hub in the 28 inch Elk wiring panel, and two keypads.

In the master bedroom I have to use a 6ft  piece of 4 conductor white wire because it will be seen sitting on top of the baseboard, and connect this to the Cat5 in the closet next to the keypad. 

My concern is, will this change the termination point of this wire run, since the two wires going back to the M1DBH are not located on the keypad, but six feet away from it. I'm thinking it should not be a problem, but then I don't know for sure!

I can't get to the wall in the attic, so I can't put this run in the wall behind the keypad.

Does this make sense?

Why not buy some white CAT5 then?

Talk about a senior moment!!!! that makes perfect sense now!.

All I had in white was 22/4 laying around so I was thinking I could use that. But your right I need white 3 pair.
I'm not sure I can find white 3 pair? Maybe some telephone wire?

And one other thought... if you really feel like you can't get into the wall, you can always go *behind* the baseboard, or even under it often. In my current house I wanted a keypad in a place there was just no good way to get wires to - so I removed the basedboard, then removed the drywall behind the baseboard... drilled through the studs and routed the wire around a couple exterior walls, then to where I wanted my keypad. When finished, slap some drywall strips back on the wall to cover your channel, put in a new strip of baseboard, caulk it, and you can't tell it was ever removed.

Also if the house is carpeted, you can almost always run wire underneath the baseboard... the tack strip will be outside the baseboard, and the pad won't go past there - there's always room to run a couple wires there.

Better re-think that...you need 3-pair.

The keypad needs just two pairs if you plan its location to be at the end of the bus as shown on page two of the M1KP2/3 instructions. You can set a jumper to terminate at the keypad.

I'd still use cat5 unless you want the smaller diameter of the two pair cable.
