Hello,
I am wondering if I can mix roxul wool with fiberglass. My ceiling is kinda deep and it will cost me more money to cover it will roxul wool. So, I was wonder if I can first lay a r13 in in the fill it up with roxul wool. Will this be efficient?

I just purchased (special order) six bails of Roxul ComfortBatte from big home center store. I have removed the old foil backed fiberglass insulation because it was R-10 and showing signs of water vapor contamination. Although, I don’t believe it had progressed to mold. I am going to install ComfortBatte insulation for one entire outside wall.

Roxul is definitely more money. Each bail is 59.7 sq/ft and ~$38. This works around to around .63c sq/ft verses .30c for fiberglass batts.

  • Efficiency will not diminish with heavy water vapor/humidity. While removing the old fiberglass insulation, I did notice that everywhere there was dark stains, the insulation was thinner or was slightly compacted.
  • R-15 for 2x4 framing
  • Fireproof
  • Less intrusive when installing product
  • Less intrusive when installing product
  • Sound abatement (I didn’t say sound proof).
Depending on the ceiling you are talking about, some of these benefits may be reduced. In my attic I have a mixture of blow fiberglass and cellose that I am currently looking to have removed. Every time I go into the attic even for a small inspection, I come out coughing and throat is sore for day. I am thinking about replacing with Roxul.
