More LED bulb options

The new Philips A19 bulbs are awesome! I just put two in. Much better appearance and I'm interested to see if they are more resistant to line induced "flashing" while dimmed. This tech is moving at warp 11....

Thanks for the info kwilcox; I can't believe I missed this.  The yellow Philips A19 bulb has long been my favorite LED.  I've tried just about every 60W LED from Lowes and Home Depot, and I prefer the Philips above all of the others.  I immediately went to Home Depot to pick up one of the new bulbs.

The only other negative I have is that they are not as yellow/warm as the old bulb.  Unless I completely misunderstand color temperature, I'm not sure how the two bulbs can both be rated at 2700K.  I have identical table lamps and the new bulb is definitely whiter, though not as white as the 3000K Ecosmart 13W from Home Depot.

They definitely seem to be getting closer to the "perfect" bulb.  If they can get the cost closer to the $10 range, then I'd pick them up for even seldom used fixtures...

I have a few of the new style Philips LED bulbs. They are the 5000K ones.
I like the 5000K ones in a few locations in my houes but most of mine are 2700K or 3000K color temperature.

I think the CRI might be slightly lower on the new Philips bulbs. The whiteness isn't noticeable to me at all unless they are dimmed.

My buddy just bought some Feit A19 replacements at Costco for $15 each.  He put them side by side with the new $25 Philips bulbs, and they put out the same amount and color of light.  He's returning the Philips.

I got 7 of the A19 Feit leds from Costco and they claim 22.8 years and so far 2 of them have gone out in 6 months. The reason I decided to try them is that when they go out I just take em back to Costco and get new ones. Can't do that at Home Depot I don't think.  Feit is Chinese junk as most stuff from china is but its not China's fault. It's the greedy american corporations that spec out low quality stuff to be make there to increase profits for the greedy CEO pukes. China is quite capable of making quality stuff. They just don't get the chance very often.  Ooops did I rant there??

@kwilcox warp 11 is pretty fast moving tech, hehe.  what warp tech level would you call these ones? :)

Hamish,

I am looking to start slow on 120VAC LED lighting.  I have already converted my LV outdoor lighting to LED and its doing fine.

I have been using a standard base lamp Osram Sylvania F15 60 watt bulb.  It has a crystal reflecting light look to it.  Kind of particular about the appearance of the light outside.

I do have it dimmed some 30 % using UPB switches.

I'm going really slow as an adopter to said technology for the 120VAC stuff.

Hamish-

Have to say, the limitless stuff looks VERY cool, and reasonable cost as well. I will need to read a little more to understand how to tie in to my home automation server (like pairing, etc) and existing wifi routers.
I don't see UL listed there- is that in process? CE is good though.
Would love to see some teardown guts pictures to get a better idea of construction/robustness of the design.

I've been using the following from lowes for some time (bathrooms and outdoor coach lights):

http://www.lowes.com/pd_338802-75774-LA19DM/LED_4294801215__?productId=3341246&Ntt=led&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl_Light%2BBulbs_4294801215__s%3FNtt%3Dled%26page%3D3&cm_mmc=aff_gan-_-k244266-_-GAN_1293202976-

They were post many pages ago in this thread.  The dim well with neutral referenced dimmers (Insteon), and handle the cold well ( -15F here).  At 3000K, I would not call them "soft white" as the Lowes page does.  Dispersion is rather narrow, they would not work well in a table lamp.
I was one of the early people to grab these - and I'll say that more than a year later, I'm still fine with them - and I have about 40 of them.  None have burned out; they dim just fine (actually they go pretty low, but you have to go up to like 45% to get them to turn on; then you can dim down to about 10-15%).  I have anywhere from 1 to 9 per switch with no issues.

This looks more like transwarp tech to me :)

There is a recall on some of these made by Lighting Science Group (but sold under other names):

"The 120-volt LED bulbs, sold as 6- 8- and 9-watt bulbs (equivalent to 40 or 50 watts), were marketed under the brand names Definity, EcoSmart, Sylvania and Westinghouse. The model numbers A19, G25 and R20/PAR20 are found on the packaging and on the light-colored circular neck above the base of the bulb where the date code is also printed."

@Markd They use standard UDP commands, so all home automation systems can make use of them.

here is an opensource Rasberry Pi project using RFID and LED, its very cool.

Not sure how new these are, but I just picked up this Cree 9.5W 800 lumen bulb from Home Depot for $12.95 last night.  I love the CR6 bulbs in our kitchen cans, so I wanted to see how these fared.  I've only used them in some reading lamps (no dimming), but I think the light quality looks as good as the new Philips bulbs.  With a lower cost and higher efficiency, it definitely has potential.

I didn't see any restrictions on using these in enclosures like Philips, so this might be my go to bulb for enclosed hallway lights...

From what I have read in the Candlepower Forums.
Those Cree LED bulbs are recently released and just starting to show up in the Home Depot stores. They where avilable on line for a few weeks already.
