I purchased the GRI 110WG-12 surface mount wide gap contacts for use on my exterior sliding doors. I thought I needed the wide gap contacts since I have a 1" trim piece between the wired portion of the contact and the contact magnet. After I installed the first contact magnet I am able to open the sliding door close to 6" before the ELK recognizes the open contact. I did not realize the wide gap was this 'wide'.
So I'm thinking I will move the magnet 3" horizontally from the wired end of the contact simply to reduce the 'alarm gap' to 2"-3".
Does this make sense?
