Need help figuring how to mount magnets

Well, i realized a mistake in my planning today. I went to attach the magnets to the windows, but if I put it on I cant close the window. I attached two pictures showing the window. They fold inward but are flush with the frame when closing. If i put a magnet on the side of the window it will get knocked off when closing. Any ideas? Am i going to have to drill a recessed hole?

i could...what exactly will i be drilling into? Is there some sort of material inside the window or is it going to be hollow?

Try it and find out.

My windows are all wood frames, but my sliding patio door frame had a hollow fiberglass thing that totally got shredded by the drill. I stuck the flush mount sensor in there anyway and used some JB Weld to keep it secure.

don't drill into a newer dual-pane window unless you know what you're doing - they have a gas in there that helps the efficiency which you'd potentially comprimise.

Many people hot-glue a strong magnet into the channel between the window and the frame - not sure if that'll line up well with your current sensor placement - but it's an option.

I wanted to glue a magnet to the window, but if i do I am unable to close the window back into the frame. The magnet would stick out and hit the frame upon closing. I could notch out a 1/4" gap into the frame so i could pass the magnet through that, but the wife did not like the idea (nor did I).

The area between the glass on a dual or triple pane window is always going to be gas filled. You definitely DO NOT want to drill deep enough into the window frame to penetrate that.

Figure out the depth of your magnet and wrap a piece of masking tape around your drill bit to ensure you don't go deeper than that.

I very highly doubt it. Just the cladding is probably 1/8". You should be able to look between the glass panes around the edge to get an idea of how close to the edge of the frame the glass goes.

Well, i went ahead and drilled. 9 windows done so far. No big problems. The sensor was flush mounted in the recessed area, which was alittle to far to read the magnet in the window. I pulled out the sensor a bit and all works. I have 2 windows that have a metal frame support where i have my hole. I made a wood dowel with a powerful magnet to stick in there. Just waiting on the silicon to harden.
