Network patch module

I recently purchased an 8 port CAT5 module to mount inside one of my cans. Only problem is that it doesn't fit in the can where I need it. I don't mind modifying the can where I need it but thought I would ask to see if anyone else knew of any other modules besides this one from On-Q.

This one is an On-Q

TIA

I used the smaller Leviton 6 port patch panels (from 7 years ago); not as pleasing to the eye but fits in the 42" Leviton can. I have 6 of these mounted inside of the can and was also able to fit a 24 port (10/100) switch above it. I initially also used these for the copper connections. I also used these for my 1-Wire sensors wired in a star configuration. (just 1-wire, network, telephone in the can - no video). I've exceeded the space in the can now with a couple other network switches and more 1-wire hardware.

Leviton Cat5 Voice and Data module

I used both styles of Leviton combination mounts. I removed the video splitter on one mount to mount my Temp08/temp05 combo 1-Wire sensors.

I originally connected all of the telephone Cat5 cables but currently only using two and now trying a USB connected touchscreen to one to see how well it works.

Leviton Cat5 Voice and Data module

Thanks Pete - I have used those in the past as well. Pretty efficient size-wise. Any others?

I am rebuilding my 42†Leviton "media" SMC to use a Channel Vision C-0508 8-port 110 puchdown modules (http://www.channelvision.com/index.php/SOLUTIONS/Structured-Wiring/c-0508-and-c-1001.html). What I like about this module, is that RJ-45 jacks are vertical, so patch cables don't have to bend when installed back-to-back with switch. In addition, there are two extra RJ-45 jacks compared to Leviton 6-jack modules.

This whole reconfiguration started when I ran out of Cat5 punchdowns, and I could not find a suitable telelphone surge supressor that did not have a RJ-31x (the Leviton module already has a RJ-31x). I originally purchased the Leviton Advanced Home Telephone Panel (http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=16516&minisite=10027), but I don’t need to multiplex four telephone lines – nor do I want to use the 6-port cable splitter. The Leviton ADSL filter does not have a surge suppressor which is critical to protect Elk.

Basically, I am starting over with all Channel Vision parts (cable amp, cat5, power distribution, and telephone). I wish I would have done this originally and saved the $150. All the Channel Vision structured wiring parts have multiple mounting holes that allow them to be installed in a Leviton enclosure.

Nice module. In Illinois I was able to fit a 24 port small footprint 10/100 switch in the panel and patched over from the Leviton modules. For the additional networked connections I had to go out of the media panel putting additional patch panels on the HA/MM wood board. (To utilize the GB switches which were larger). I never utilized the RJ-31x part of the module but have multiple telephone lines coming into the home (initially 2 copper and 2 VOIP) and utilize multiple line Panasonic wireless phones so making use of the other telephone patch panel features.

Is your network switch mounted inside of the Leviton 42" can?

Thanks for the link - That turned me onto different thinking (Google search terms) where I found this page.
They have a 16 port module that might fit the bill - no idea if it will fit my can but might just get it and mod where necessary.

Is your network switch mounted inside of the Leviton 42" can?
I have not purchased a new switch, but I am leaning towards GS116 (http://www.netgear.com/products/business/switches/unmanaged-desktop-switches/GS116.aspx) because specifications indicate it's 11.2†wide. Thus, it can fit inside Leviton SMC. In addition, the 12v/1.5A power requirements make it compatible with my SMC power distribution (i.e., all security/media devices use 12v).
Anybody else using this switch inside a SMC?
