Newbie question - HAI Omni Pro and DSC Motion detector

Hi all,

After not having much luck getting a local installer, I have decided to install the HAI system myself and I was wondering if I could get some help from you pros.

I have run Cat5 wires all through out the house and managed to find a leviton box to hook up the Omni Pro and HAI Hifi controllers in the basement.

1. DSC motion detector - The one I have has 4 connectors: GND, 12V, N, NC - I have checked the Omni Pro installation Manual and could not find where to connect the motion detector. I only see the GND and 12V connections but where do I connect the other 2?

2. Door contacts have just 2 wires. Do I just connect it to one of the Zone Inputs on Omni Panel?

Thanks

All of your 'contacts' go to a zone input. So, the 2 zone contacts on the motion go to a zone (N and NC) and the 12V and GND go to Aux power. The door contact simply goes to zone input, same as motion. The motion and door are exactly the same except that the motion need + and - 12V for power.

Doesn't that assume that he has EOL turned on? And in that case will need a resistor on ALL zone inputs? Or is there something special about the DSC motion I am not aware of?

I need one more advice regarding hooking up the Siren to the board too please.

The Omni manual has the siren connected with just 2 wires , Red and Black. The DSC siron I purchased, is a 2 tone 12 VDC 20 W siron with 3 wires:
White (-) Common
Yellow (+) steady
Red (+) Yelp

Should I connect the 2 positives (Yelp and Steady) to the INT and EXT connection on controller and the Common White wire to the GND on controller?

Sorry for my stupid newbie questions but I dont wanna fry anything before hooking it up.

Thanks

NO, Don't hook it up like that! Those types of sirens are designed to sound EITHER steady or yelp. So, assuming it is an Exterior siren, you would connect the White/Common/Negative to the GND screw and connect EITHER the yellow or red to EXT. If you want a Steady sound, connect the Yellow to Ext, for Yelp connect the Red to Ext.

Don't connect both red and yellow at the sane time. I suppose if you wanted to get fancy you could connect them both through a relay and switch between steady and yelp via an output, but that just complicates things unnecessarily.

A word of caution: Are you sure that it is a 20W sounder? That would be 1.67 Amps (20W/12V) which seems excessive. Most sounders are 40ma ~ 175ma, but I have seen some high power outdoor sounders that go up higher...

From the installation manual:

SOUNDERS CANNOT EXCEED 1 AMP, SPLIT BETWEEN INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR HORN OUTPUTS. IN UL INSTALLATIONS, SOUNDERS CANNOT EXCEED 350mA.

If you want to use this sounder you will have to wire it strait to the battery and use a relay on the sounder output to turn it on/off.
