Odd X10 RF transmissions

Well here is everything I've tried:

Moved the W800 to known good serial port on the MB
Checked the power supply for good voltage
Disconnected the anntenna from the W800
Wrapped the W800 in aluminum foil and grounded it to house ground

All tests still yield corrupted data from the W800. So I've got another on order from Martin. I'll repost when after I've check the new receiver out.

WGL did reply and thought it maybe RF noise but when wrapped in foil and grounded the W800 could not receive a palmpad at 2 to 3 feet so I feel RF noise was eliminated with that test.

Random failure(s) or quality control problem?

Under WGL warranty?

I've been reading through the "Archives" today and looking into the W800 as a way to interface DS10s with my CM11A independent of my PS561. I already have a MR26 that I haven't gotten a "round tuit" for, so this is just "window shopping".

Is there a "reliability problem" with the W800?

[I'll be posting a separate thread regarding W800 and DS10 questions as soon as I get all of my thoughts organized...]

I have only heard of just a few people having issues with this device, but considering how many people have bought the W800 and have no problems, I don't think it's bad at all. Mine has been running for a few months now without any issues.

One main difference to consider is I believe the W800 will see the X-10 wireless security devices where the MR26a will not (someone correct me if I am wrong as I don't have a W800 nor any of those security devices).

I have been using my MR26a for a year and a half with no problems. Increased its range using a homemade antenna (described HERE).

Also, Homeseer users may want to see how much the W800 plugin in is going to cost for HS2.0 if they are considering one to replace their current MR26a. :P

BSR - yes the main difference is the W800 can receive X10 security devices.

I now have a cheap MR26A ($3.99 including shipping) It receives valid X10 ok from a short range. The W800 is not connected to an antenna and still reports corrupted receptions. I have a new W800 due in tomorrow. I'll post again when I compare the old to new W800.
