Old time DIYers in chat room?

Was wondering today where all the old time DIYers that frequented the chat room in years gone by. Sign of the times, lost interest, families, or just plain life. It would be great to see some of them back.

John,

I actually never used the chat; but I would consider myself an old timer; by the day; lately.

I still utlize the same Elk Amp you sold initially installed in one car (for the telephone) maybe around 2003 or so. Still working just fine; built to last.

We used to have a pretty lively crowd of DIY's Friday nights including 'special guests' from time to time that included vendor reps.

Also, we had demos of cameras as well as other special topic interests. We could try to get this going again. Dan even created a special "tech" channel to limit the convos dedicated to home automation, security, etc... apps.

Curious what the interest would be with our forum members if this were to happen and what they would like to see incorporated as well! :)

I mentioned the chat room on Friday idea to Spanky and johnnynine and both said they would be interested in participating. I think it would be a great idea now that winter has settled in.

It's weird, but I guess I slowly drifted away from this crowd. I even stopped visiting the forums for a while. I try to check it now a couple times a week, but I had totally forgotten about the chat room.

I guess my system is pretty stable and I have stopped tinkering with it as much, so I'm not out there looking for new information or researching a solution as much anymore.

Heck - I cannot believe the dates in my signature. It is hard to believe that I have been using CQC for close to 7 years now and Sage for over 5 years. The time just flies by I guess.

If more bugs would help, I can do that. I'd have to charge more though. Believe it or not, CQC will be 10 years old in a few more days. The first public version was posted on Feb 8, 2002. That's even harder to believe. We are going to be having a sale from the 8th till Presidents Day (when we'd otherwise normally have a sale this time of year.)

Our new moto is going to be "Living in poverty for your automation needs since 2002", or something like that. Maybe not that exactly.

I did a special guest thing on the chat a long time ago. Things were much different then, and I think a lot more people were out to get me, so it was a bit tense and I felt like I was defending myself. These days it would probably be a lot easier.

We had a local Homeautomation meeting this past weekend in the Chicago area. There was a few of us there and it was nice to see the group of folks. It's been a couple of years now since we all last met.

That said; a group chat would be nice.

Winter here in the midwest appears (for the time being) to have come (9" snow a couple of weeks ago) and gone (50's this last week). Its been so nice outside that I have been converting more outdoor LV zones over to LED lighting.

Dean, interesting new moto; personally never seen the economy in such dire shape.

Unless we manage to come up with a new economic end of the world, I think that we are finally on the slow climb back out of our mess. And suiting I guess that it would be basically a decade after the bubble popped. Six years of party and a decade long hangover, and still a few years before we really get back up and moving again. But, as long as it doesn't take another nose dive, that's a step in the right direction. Once the general consensus is that we are now on the climb up, that will encourage companies and individuals to start investing in new toys, and that effectively is what will make it true.

Yeah, where did winter go?

I went to a local mall on Saturday, for an errand. It was more crowded than the week before Christmas. Full parking lots.

Personally, I'm trying to spend a lot of money. I tell the wife, 'it's for the economy.'
