Outdoor motions

I need to install some outdoor motions around the driveway to detect people in an area and to turn on the flood lights. Can anyone recomend one. I tried a couple including a indoor one and all I got was false alarms witht he sun etc. or is there a better way to go?

I use a "second look" approach. Let the dumb sensors trip all they want, then use some basic video analysis do the rest.

By themselves, my video and PIRs would trip all the time.

However, BOTH need to say "yes" there is someone there. At that point, it works out VERY well. Cut the amount of video I was capturing by 100x.

Also, since the situation would be you taking multiple DUMB sensors to make one kind of smart one, the Video Analytics can be pretty dumb as well.

I like to use SuperVisionCam

It has some pretty easy settings and ways to ignore certain colors. Reasonable Price. Also has a really decent Hysteresis algorithm (averages out video noise to try to properly trigger).

I use a script that this program executes to trigger my automation system.
-------------------

first step, motion enables the video processing for the camera. The software decides if it really sees anything. If not then everything stops and goes back to sleep (lights included).

Pretty easy.

Optex LX-402. I've been using it for about a year. So far, so good, no falses that I know of. Very sensitive on the wings, not so sensitive in the middle. I know it every time the neighbor's cat crosses my driveway.

They recommend an 8 foot mounting height, which I think is a bit low for outdoors. They have a high mount version (HX-40, 10 foot mount) that I'd like to try.

I use the Bosch Blue Line indoor sensors outside. They have a model with both PIR and Microwave, and BOTH have to trip for it to go off. I just sealed it up with silicone and dropped a silica gel packet into it before closing it up. Works awesome, but they are under the eave of the house, not in direct rain/sun. No false positives so far, and I've had them in since August or so.

I have gotten fals alarms off the blue line bosch, I love them though have them in my house. I did a search i was just hoping there was a simple answer or something new.

I use the Optex LX-402 outside, and I have to say, the false all the time. The pick up humans quite good and ignore most animals, at least rabbits, snakes, and others like that around here, but when it gets windy out, they will false constantly. If your more fussy, you might want to try one of the Optex multiple IR beam detectors.

Which specific model of the Bosch Blue Lines do you use?

I was going to try a test outside with one of these.

Thanks Kevin, will give one of these a try. Currently use older outdoor Optex PIRs and they have held up pretty well in the last 5-6 years.

You're welcome, Pete.

A couple of things to consider:

1. They are pricey - $200+
2. You need to add a wireless sender

In FL probably would use wireless outdoor PIRs (HX-40RAM) but in MW would use a wired outdoor PIR.

Was looking for a wired sensor and looking at specs only see wired specs for HX-40.

So if I want to use it in a wireless mode would have to purchase a wireless sender eh?

OK found the HX-40RAM.
