Outdoor Wireless Contacts - ELK Honeywell Trans.

I am looking to add 2 outdoor wireless contacts for my 2 gates outside. I have ELK M1 Gold and the Honeywell wireless adapter, M1XRF2H.

This wouldn't be for alarm but rather house notification when these gates have been opened.

Anything you recommend? Wide gap contacts preferred, I think there is about a 2" gap when closed.

I have meant to do this for a few years.  I bought some wide gap contacts and planned on putting a GE NX-650 in plastic weatherproof box.  I just never got around to it.  I bought the contacts from Automated Outlet and I think they are GRI's.

You will probably have to replace the battery every two years or so.  I have had to do that on the NX-650 I used with my garage door contacts.  That transmitter is inside but in unheated space.

You can sometimes find a decent deal on Honeywell/Ademco wireless devices on ebay ($20 or so) if you dont have a dealer account.  I forget the part number for their version of the GE NX-650  but I think it may be the 5816 that has a built in reed switch but also has an input for a closed loop circuit.

SECO-LARM SM-226L-3 Magnetic Garage Door Contact Switch works well, providing three wires so you can configure the circuit as either Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC) depending on what your sensor wants to "see".  It should work with any sensor.  Mine is connected to an Insteon I/O Linc Sensor / Relay with the relay portion connected to the garage door closer wall button.  My ISY994i senses when the door is open and sends Door Open and Door Closed text alerts IF the door remains open more than 10 minutes.  I also have sunset-based routines that close the door if left open after dark.

I formerly had my Elk doing the sensing via the NX-650 wireless sensor and the closing using an Evolve relay, but the Insteon system now does both with one device.
