Plasma flooding IR on Russound UNO-S2 keypad

I'm looking to use my Russound CAV6.6 & UNO-S2s as an IR distribution system around my home.

However, I'm finding that 1 keypad in particular is flooding the system with IR due to a plasma installed and facing it on an opposite wall about 18 feet away. If I look at the keypad itself, I can see the IR sensor flicker excessively while the plasma is on.

If I put electrical tape over that IR sensor, the IR system works well. If I remove the tape, allowing the plasma to create the IR "noise", the IR system only works intermittently.

Of course, this is the room I need the IR the most - otherwise I'd simply block it off permanently.

What are my options? Is there any way to reduce IR interference from a plasma? I'm surprised Russound doesn't make a plasma-proof UNO-S2 keypad....

You really want to confirm this (in the manual or with tech support) however we have had people tell us that they have pulled the orange pair off the keypad (IR) and use a Plasma proof IR receiver tied to the auxilliary IR input on the UNO-S2.

You have any other options but thw $225 xantech...

I had purchased the niles ceiling mount IR sensors for my applications. Works great in the bedroom which is only 12 feet deep or so and the bed is right in front and because it's positions above/forward of the plasma in the family room, i don't think i have the bleedover in the famil room.

However, the family room has serious coverage issues both sideways and against the back wall and my wife is really ticked off about it. Trying to save a buck was probably not my best option here... I think for best coverage i need to put one in the wall just under or over the plasma, but th bevels don't look very big - if the drywall hole gets enlarged slightly, i think that would be bad. But $200 bucks sure seems steep

Before anything is purchased, this really needs to be confirmed to make sure that the auxilliary IR input does not use the orange pair to send back to the main unit. Otherwise it won't work anyway.

Thanks for the tips. I will check on the orange pair, and if it's an issue I can always use some material inside the keypad to block out the IR sensor.

Thanks again!

Disconnecting the orange pair will disable IR on the UNO keypad entirely.

Connecting a plasma proof IR sensor the the remote IR input on the back of the UNO-S2 is the approach I would take, but you'll need to block the integrated IR sensor on the front with tape. You can also block the keypad IR sensor by removing the faceplate and placing tape inside if you're worried about the look of tape on the outside.

I use the Plasma proof receivers from Xantech & Russound which are expensive but work well...

Cheers,
Paul
