Anyway, thank you all for the great comments and suggestions. Lots to consider here -- although my particular situation (door location, switch location, vanity design and wall construction) seem to be conspiring to make solving this puzzle a bit more difficult than one would like.
My current thought is to:
- Install one or two Visonic SPY 1 motion detectors in the toe kick panel of the vanity -- aimed towards the door and the main area of the room
- Hire an electrician install a single gang GFI receptacle high-up in the base cabinet of the vanity
- Install one or two SA UMI interfaces and connect the SPY 1 detectors
- Install UPB switches for both the light and the fan -- I'll probably test the new SA switches that have a built-in delay (I believe they are due to be released shortly)
