Problems setting up UPB w/ ELKM1PCSPIM and UMC-USB-W and Upstart

Folks,

First time poster here - appreciate any help. I setup the PCSPIM correctly (Elk M1 shows its at address 7, most recent firmware, etc.)

I've downloaded the Upstart SW, plug in the UMC-USB-W to the usb port, and start upstart.
Clicking on device, the only ports shown for the PIM are COM1 & Com 3 (and none).
Even though i believe i should be connecting via USB.

Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? I basically can't get the upstart to even see the M1 at this point.

I tried this on two other machines in my house, so i'm at a total loss and of course there's no tech support on weekends!

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks,

Timely, I just moments ago started progamming mine.

With the UMC-USB-W in the USB port and Upstart running, under Tools, USB interface, Communications Port do you see "USB", and interface "USB Powerline Interface Module"?
That part of mine worked fine. I plugged in the USB before installing upstart (which normally would be wrong by the way, for most software drivers). I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

To "see" the UMC-USB-W itself you have to put it in setup mode (5 quick taps on the botton, LED should flash). After that I could do an add device and it found it.

Now for what it is worth I did not get a lot further. I configured a network, I enrolled the device on the bus, I went to Globals and added the network number, and I physically installed a light switch. I added the light switch to the network in Upstart. I programmed from upstart to all devices. All was fine. From upstart I can 'test" and control the light.

But I can't get the M1G to do anything at all. It thinks it has a light, the keypad shows it changing if I either use a rule or manually adjust. But nothing ever happens. I've been going around in circles for the last couple hours, so if you get this working I would appreciate any advice.

PS. I upgraded the firemware on mine to 1.0.50 (it came with 1.0.48). I'm starting to worry that was a bad idea, but I generally figure to start at the latest when doing a new system.

Linwood -

Thanks much. You got me going (kind of).

For one - to get the PIM-USB accessible, you have to go to Tools-->Options-->Advance, then put a check mark in the box where it says to include all PIM interfaces.

Then when you look for the device its there, and I connect.

I was able to add one switch. The second switch and its odd, when i connect, the firmware shows 0.0 for the PIM.
I can still turn the first light on/off, but i can't view/add devices - keep getting powerline interface firmware is out of date, please use version 3.05 or newer. When i try to connet the firmware shows 0.0. Really odd.

Anyway - i can't view anything on the network or add, but am able to turn on the 1 switch already on the network.

One thing i do NOT like about UPB & Elk is that when you bring up Elk RMS, it does NOT display the status of the switch.
Does the Elk do this for insteon/zwave?

thanks for the help...heading in the right direction!

OK,

Maybe i should of searched first, I figured out that I had to reset the UMC-USB-W (not the PIM-E which is connected to Elk).
Once I did that, i was able to add the switch to the network....

Man - the documentation on this SUCKS.

I did get mine working well, I had done something stupid and set the ELK control as #1, then put the light control in #1 while the switch was #2. Dug.... Anyway, I renumbered the control to a high number to keep it out of the way (otherwise you have a gap on the Navigator keypads where it is).

Now I have to figure out something useful to do.

I did the EXACT same thing but then i deleted the PIM-E altogether as its actually not a device needed. It strictly allows the Elk to pass commands to the network so even though i deleted it, everything is now operations.

My wife thinks I'm nuts btw....:)
