Projector protocol?

So I have this projector that was purchased years ago that I'd like to integrate into my theater gear. It's got a serial port on it for control but I'll be damned if I can find any published protocol for controlling it. After some pretty heavy sleuthing, I turned up a program called PJCtrl that works on both serial and IP-connected projectors - as luck would have it, it works great. I monitored the serial traffic and discovered that it's sending what appears to be hex commands to the projector at a pretty rapid pace, which makes reverse engineering this somewhat...challenging.

Does anyone happen to have any suggestions as to the best way to make this dog hunt? If I have to chip away at this I will but it seems like that's a pretty inefficient way to handle this.

Thanks!

What brand/model projector?

Hey Barry - it's a Viewsonic PJ452, out of production now for several years. The PJCtrl app that works for it has a copyright box for Hitachi, so I'm guessing it's either Hitachi's protocol or a industry standard? I stumbled on some Hitachi documentation last night that may prove helpful but the link is on my PC at home.

Did you try contacting Viewsonic?

Yeah, I spoke to a guy on the phone who sounded pretty bored and uninterested in helping me due to the age of the projector, I'm assuming. He may have been a bad apple though, I'll give them another shout tomorrow and see if my luck improves any.
